Prebid 9.0 has been released

Prebid.js is a free and open-source JavaScript library that helps publishers manage advertising auctions. It allows the integration of various advertising platforms (SSP/DSP) directly on the publisher's website, increasing bid competitiveness and boosting advertising revenue. Prebid.js supports a wide range of adapters, making it easier to connect new advertising networks.

Prebid has been updated to version 9.0. This significant update includes several performance improvements, new features, and enhanced security measures.

Interestingly, the MyTarget adapter has been removed, and no explanation was found in the GitHub repository.

Performance Improvements

One of the key features of the new Prebid version is improved performance. The updated version offers optimized processes, enabling faster auctions and handling large volumes of data with lower latency. High speed is crucial as it maximizes advertising revenue and allows advertisers to make quicker decisions.

Prebid 9.0 includes changes that improve page load times, allowing users to see ads faster and reducing the likelihood of revenue loss due to delays. The new version also optimizes cache operations, ensuring faster ad updates and the relevance of advertising content.

Page load speed affects ad visibility. Fast loading ensures timely ad display, increasing visibility. This, in turn, boosts interaction with ads and potential revenue. Slow loading can lead to users leaving the page before ads appear, reducing advertising effectiveness and revenue.

New Features

  • Multi-format ads. Added the ability to integrate video and banner ads into a single ad unit.
  • New targeting algorithms. Now user behavior and page context data can be considered to increase campaign efficiency.
  • Security. New security features have been introduced to prevent fraud and ensure data integrity.

ORTB2 Objects for Video

There have been changes in working with ORTB2 objects for video (more details here: Google Ad Manager video ad placement rules update and here: Google DV360 adopts new IAB Tech Lab guidelines).

  • Automatic placement type detection has been canceled. Previously, this was done based on context, but now it is not.
  • The "instream" context now only indicates the technical integration method used by the publisher when integrating into the player.
  • The "outstream" context can now be transmitted through plcmt = 4.
  • Both plcmt and placement must now be specified, even if only one of these values is supported.
  • Publishers are recommended to explicitly set the plcmt value for their video ad units. This will help avoid errors in ad placement and ensure inventory quality requirements are met by buyers.

ORTB2 (OpenRTB 2.0) is a standard protocol for automating the real-time buying and selling of advertising. It provides a unified data exchange format between DSP and SSP.
